Saturday, May 8th the winners of competition of the 6th edition of the International Documentary Film Festival DOCVILLE were announced during the award ceremony. The Award for Best Belgian Documentary went to Flaxman by Jan Lapeire, a visually stunning film about two old flax growers in Western Flanders whose family business is threatened by environmental license issues. The award is worth 2.000€, donated by the copyright organization SCAM. What’s in a Name, the graduation film of KASK film school student Eva Küpper and also selected at HotDocs (Toronto), received an Honorable Mention.
The Award for Best International Documentary went to How Much Does Your Building Weigh, Mr. Foster? the fascinating portrait of architect Norman Foster by the Spanish directors Norberto López Amado and Carlos Carcas. National broadcaster CANVAS purchased the film and will broadcast it at a later time.

DOCVILLE 2010 was a tremendous success. A long series of premières attracted a record number of visitors. Ticket sales rose by 40%. The world premières of brand-new Belgian documentaries like Cheers & Cheerio,Walking Back to Happiness and Where is Gary? brought in full house. The media attention for programmed films and their directors was overwhelming.
By the fall of 2010 a part of the DOCVILLE program will go on tour throughout Belgium. The next DOCVILLE edition will take place in May 2011.

May 1st - 8th, 2010 the 6th edition of the International Documentary Film Festival DOCVILLE will take place in Leuven, Belgium. Every year the DOCVILLE festival presents a selection of the latest national and international documentary films. Eye-catcher of the festival is a long list of unreleased films that have their premiere at the festival and the national and international competition.
Thematic compilations, a video-installation, several events and industry activities complete the festival programme.
Two industry events are scheduled: New Chinese Documentary beyond the Frame (with, a.o., Robert Pledge (UK,Contact Press Images), Zhou Hao (director of “Using”), Tianqi Yu (Centre for Edu-
cation in Arts and Media, UK), Dr Katie Hill (Senior Lecturer at the University of Westminster) and Day of the Doc (with a speeddate-session, a lecture by the European Documentary network, a screening of Capturing reality and much more).
Leuven is a city, 20 kilometers near Brussels. The city harbours one of the largest and oldest universities in Europe. The K.U.Leuven was founded in 1425 and has more than 30.000 students today.
Leuven is also the hometown of INBEV, the largest brewery in the world, famous for it's beer Stella Artois (since 1366), one of the best known beers. The city has a wonderfull historical center and a fameous béguinage (UNESCO world heritage).
The past 5 years, DOCVILLE grew from a small initiative to a large, well knows international film filmfestival. The festival history containes a brief description of every festivaledition, the winners of the competitions, pictures and videos.
