COMPETITION

A delegation of 9 national and international professionals from the documentary film branch will award three films at DOCVILLE 2013. The films from the International Selection are in the running for the CANVAS Jury Award. In the Science & Conscience category a SABAM Award will be assigned. The jury also chooses the Best Belgian Documentary of the year.

AWARD CEREMONY

All winners will be announced, with the jury present, during the award ceremony. This takes place on Saturday May 11th, at 7.45 PM in the Soetezaal at Art Centre STUK. Closing the ceremony is a screening of the film 'When Bubbles Burst.

INTERNATIONAL SELECTION


ANNE VIERHOUT (1979) is the managing director of Cinema Delicatessen. This is a distribution company based in Amsterdam and specializes in releasing documentary films  in theatres in both the Netherlands and Belgium. Before this, Anne worked as a coordinator of the pitching Forum for co-financing at the International Documentary Filmfestival Amsterdam (IDFA). Anne also worked as an advisor for the funding of projects for Screen New South Wales in Australia and she holds a Master degree in Filmstudies.

TOM BLEYAERT (BE) graduated as master in Politics and
Social Science from the University Ghent. Started working for the national broadcaster VRT in 2000 at the sports department. Since 2001 he is responsible for the purchase of international documentaries for CANVAS.

DIMITRI VAN ZEEBROECK (BE) is a freelance photographer and journalist whose work appears in several Belgian and international magazines and newspapers. He produced and directed over fifty video reports and documentaries including the much lauded "Werewolves" and the twelve-part series "Elements".

(CON)SCIENCE

FRIEDE VAN WIJCK (BE) is a journalist and all-round presenter, whose career started in 1977 at VRT. She has worked for the news, Panorama and Terzake, hosted entertainment shows such as De Laatste Show and De Klas van Frieda and interviewed world-renowned leading figures for Spraakmakers.

CULLEN HOBACK (US) is a filmmaker whose past works include the much acclaimed ‘Monster Camp’, ‘FrICTION’ and most recently ‘Terms and Conditions May Apply’ that is part of the SHFT-CTRL programme. He is also an expert at made-to-fit distribution strategies and independent production. 

YOUN JI (AT) has been head of sales at Autlook Filmsales since 2009, an Austrian sales agent specialized in documentaries. Her job has taken her to film festivals across the globe. She also organizes pitching forums.

NATIONAAL

REMKO SCHNORR (NL) worked as a DOP for short films, commercials, music videos, documentaries and feature films. His work includes films like ‘Pluk van de Petteflet’, ‘The Pervert’s Guide to Cinema’ and ‘Mussels in Love’, which is selected as a Festival Favorites.

DAVID WILSON (US) cofounded the True/False Film Festival, with Paul Sturtz, in 2004. It is currently one of the world's leading film festivals for the documentary genre. Mr Wilson is also closely involved with the Sundance Film Festival's film selection.

ELLKEN DE WAELE (BE) founded Serendipity Films in 2006, a production company focused on author's documentaries, feature films and short films by upcoming film makers. The company produced "Grande Hotel", selected for DOCVILLE in 2011, as well as the short film "Death of a Shadow", nominated for an Oscar in 2013.
