Two old characters share their past and present. A poetic look at the lives of two very different brothers and the surprises that are still in store.

Two elderly brothers approach, with halting steps. Their thin bright white hair looks like a halo around their heads in the backlight. They live together in the family home in a sparsely populated area in Poland. They may look fragile, but are still full of vigor and humor. They once escaped from a Stalinist labor camp, but they cannot escape each other, despite their major differences.

Alfons is an artist and a dreamer, Mieczyslaw a pragmatic scientist who worked as a cartographer. They are like cat and dog, but throughout their lives, they managed to differ and overcome conflicts. Filmmaker Wojciech Staron, previously primarily known as an internationally famous cameraman, visited the brothers regularly - often without a camera - and won their trust.

The intimacy of old age is beautifully captured in honest images, while their past is dealt with in professionally processed 8mm movies. We get an impression of their time in Siberia and their lives in the former USSR. But life is not over yet. Even in their eighties, they still have dreams and desires. For painter Alfons an ultimate dream comes true, followed by a severe setback. It seems like fate created an unintended allegory, a lesson that life is an accumulation of building up and letting go, meeting and saying goodbye, falling and rising again.
