Our New PresidentMaxim Pozdorovkin

The alleged ties between Donald Trump and Russia continue to make headlines. Yet here in Europe the Russian side, and how the population is 'informed' there is rarely discussed. Made entirely with amateur footage and dubious news items, Our New President paints an equally hilarious and shocking portrait.

Trump just might be more popular in Russia than in his own country. But how exactly did he gain all this admiration? This documentary explains the phenomenon by allowing local images to speak for themselves. They range from vodka-soaked toasts in people’s homes to news broadcasts from the two largest state channels, NTV and Russia Today. During the presidential elections, the propaganda machine of these stations clearly worked at full speed. The most outrageous declarations of love to Trump pass by, side by side with the most incredible stories about Hillary Clinton. It is no coincidence that both channels are controlled by Putin, who does not shy away from pushing his personal agenda through all the way to the Russian living rooms. Russian-American director Maxim Pozdorovkin decided to make a film "that uses the news to tell a story without a single correct explanation." He does not take a stand, and he does not refute the broadcasts with facts. And this makes the criticism of Our New President all the more acute and effective. The untruths that the news anchors spew are so gratuitous that everyone, both viewer and director, can only watch stunned and speechless.
