69 Minutes of 86 Days Egil Håskjold Larsen

3-year-old Lean arrives in Greece, numb and confused. On a beach full of debris, life jackets, confusion and screaming, Lean finds her way in search of a familiar face. The audience watches for 86 days through her eyes, sharing in her fear and insecurity but also in her wonder and pleasure.

Thanks to little Lean’s surprising perspective, the film creates the perfect framework to sketch the months-long journey in a unique way. Living together with a host of other refugees, boat trips, car rides, bus rides, waiting for food, a place to sleep, transport, clarity. The ignorance and fatigue of the adults is in sharp contrast with Lean’s charismatic face. It is as though all sadness and pain have left her, but is that the case? The stylistic choices that director Egil Håskjold makes have a decisive effect on this impressive travel report. Without commentary or questions, the viewer experiences how much energy a refugee trip demands, physically and mentally. A film like no other, which already won prizes at prestigious festivals such as Hot Docs, Nordic, Sheffield and the Copenhagen Festival CPX:DOX.
