Need for MeatMarijn Frank

Marijn is a young mother from Amsterdam and a self-proclaimed meat junkie. But she does ask herself questions about her love of meat. What is the difference between the animal and the abstract piece of meat on your plate? Looking her steak in the eyes proves more difficult than expected.

Marijn Frank tries to get rid of her meat addiction and goes in search of answers in “Need for Meat”. In this personal and enlightening quest she uses a variety of methods. She takes on an internship at a cattle slaughterhouse, visits a poultry farm, talks to a psychologist and meets with a handsome chef. New knowledge and impressions swirl in her mind. Her research leads to amusing but also interesting results.

Need for Meat explores moral values, hypocrisy and the symbolic value of meat. Why can we eat a peace of meat but refuse to kill an animal ourselves? Marijn Frank feels like her choice to eat meat is too easily made, and it makes her think. In “Need For Meat” she faces the difficult choice between her personal love for meat and the rational arguments against the meat industry.
