Double Bill Steenweg: Passe-Partout + ExtremeFien Troch, Tim De Keersmaecker

Unexpected stories and scenes unfold behind the facades of our typical Flemish county roads. You will meet people leading less than ordinary lives: girls slowly undress to entice customers to consume more liquor, illegal residents without passports go from door to door to distribute free magazines at the break of dawn... Several awarded Flemish filmmakers - such as Fien Troch (Home) and Tim De Keersmaeker (No Man is an Island) - zoomed in on a piece of these paved roads and their well-preserved stories.

Inspirational motivator and creator Bart Maes - like many of us - frequently took the county roads, witnessing all sorts of modest trivial phenomena: carwash businesses, brothels, gaming halls, night shops etc. He always wondered who lived and worked there. Along with some fellow directors - no small nor unfamous names - he created a series that portrays a slice of life passing by the pavement of our county roads.

Tim De Keersmaeker scored big time with his documentary No Man is an Island, where he personalized the refugee issues with integrity. In the episode Passe-Partout he follows Samuel, a devout Congolese undocumented immigrant distributing advertising magazines from door to door. He smiles a lot, but still thinks 'one must be crazy to want to come to and live in Europe'. Filmmaker Fien Troch - who recently impressed her viewers with the long film Home - depicts life in a brothel down a paved road.
