Gringo: The Dangerous Life of John McAfeeNanette Burstein

John McAfee became world-famous and stinking rich when he became the most famous anti-virus software creator ever. But he also became crazy. He suddenly identified himself as a yogi, and left all of his belongings to follow a group headed for Belize. In Belize he founded a commune with a very high “Heart of Darkness“ vibe. In 2012 he became the main suspect of a murder case and fled.

That, however, did not stop him from attempting to run for presidency in 2016. Filmmaker Nanette Burstein ('The Kid Stays in the Picture') was, like many others, fascinated by this bizar play of McAfee's life. What can money and fame do to one's mental health?

Conversations with witnesses and those involved offer horrifying stories about the now 70-year-old mogul. McAfee refuses to confirm Burstein's ideas and stories, but does send her an occasional mail, each one increasingly bizar. The story of John McAfee defies all imagination and proves that facts amply overpower fiction.
