Schrijven in de Lage Landen

In the documentary series Writing in the Lowlands renowned documentary filmmakers portray a number of Flemish and Dutch authors. This results in a remarkable cross section of the state of affairs in both disciplines: cinematography and literature.

Documentary filmmaker Griet Teck (Feel my love) portrays Saskia De Coster (author of inter alia Vrije val - Free falling), while Eva Küpper (What's in a name) puts the spotlight on Elvis Peeters (De ontelbaren - The countless). Emilie Verhamme (who made it to the competition in Cannes a few years back with Cockaigne) made a portrait of Dimitri Verhulst, whereas Ellen Vermeulen (9999) chose Lize Spit as subject, the author responsible for unleashing the literary hype around Het smelt - Melting, her first novel and soon to-be-film, produced by Veerle Baetens. Christina Vandekerckhove (De nada) tells the story of Randall Casaer, having a breakthrough with his comic debut Slaapkoppen - Sleepy heads in 2007. Kadir Balci (Turquaze) collaborated on the series as well and did so with a portrait of Stefan Hertmans, author of the award-winning Oorlog en terpentijn - War and turpentine, enchanting us once again with his new work De bekeerlinge - The convert.

This is just a small selection of the long series of short portraits you can discover at the DOCVILLE festival, entirely for free. During the festival, there will be 2 little movie theaters at the library - Bib Leuven (Tweebronnen), where you can watch all the portraits.
