The DOCVILLE program is made up of 8 clusters this year, of which the largest is “Festival Favorites”. This eclectic collection of controversial documentary films contains films recently shown or soon to pop up in movie theaters. Impressive new films, selected from the international film festival circuit by DOCVILLE.
The Belgian documentary sector continues to deliver. Regularly, excellent new titles hit the mark, both at home and internationally. High quality author’s films, directed by people with vision and an eye for cinematography. DOCVILLE has selected ten Belgian titles, including several premieres. The International Selection is a series of ten brand new films with a clear DOCVILLE touch. These are the purest forms of documentary cinema: films made for the big screen, and obviously crafted by their maker.
As DOCVILLE wants to promote the distribution of documentary cinema, we are happy to organize a competition, in cooperation with CANVAS. The winner of the Jury Prize for Best International Documentary is sure of further distribution.
Onder Vrouwen (+short)
The Weather War (+short)
This series, made up exclusively of Belgian premieres of brand new titles, focuses on current affairs, relevant topics, social commitment and new (technological) developments. DOCVILLE emphasises documentaries with a personal approach. No fast and neutral reporting, but films that tell moving stories and take their time to really delve into a topic. The DOCVILLE jury will select one winner of the SABAM Science & Conscience Prize 2013.
M - Museum Leuven is the perfect location for a series of documentaries in which (applied) arts, creativity and artists are the main focus. The often colorful and always inspiring people behind the art are a great source of inspiration for documentary film makers, so it is no surprise the supply is overwhelming. DOCVILLE made an excellent selection of recent documentaries, several of which have already made headlines in the international filmfestival circuit.

The combination of film and music in documentaries has yielded many beautiful results. Countless documentary film festivals have a separate section of music documentaries and DOCVILLE is happy to follow that trend. Most of the films we selected are about much more than just music. Musicians and music are the backbone of a series that is mainly about charismatic personalities and the bumpy road they once walked or continue to navigate.
The internet is an ever more dominant presence in all parts of daily life. We work, communicate, read, date, shop and listen to music online. We are online 24 hours a day, the distinction between reality and virtual reality is increasingly blurry. It makes sense for the internet to be the main topic of many documentary films. DOCVILLE went through the huge supply, and selected five very powerful titles, which have already been acknowledged internationally. To the point, highly relevant and very revealing.
Any faithful DOCVILLE fan knows that documentaries are not synonymous to a dry transfer of information. The limits of documentary author’s cinema are constantly being pushed. Fascinating hybrid films come out regularly, films that blend fiction and reality, non-narrative films, personal essays and films that hover between documentary cinema and conceptual or visual arts. DOCVILLE selected a number of unique films, documentaries beyond all comparison.
