The Treasure Hunter

Giacomo Gex United Kingdom 2024 84 min.

Jack, like his father, is a gold digger. Not in the Wild West, but in the Philippine archipelago, where the Japanese Imperial Army is said to have buried a legendary war loot during WWII. They have been looking for the treasure for so long and have already spent so much money and time that they simply cannot stop. Thus, an adventurous treasure hunt becomes an addictive obsession that threatens the livelihood of the whole family.

The legend of Yamashita's Gold has captured the imagination and has lured treasure hunters from all over the world. During World War II, the Japanese army is said to have transported a huge war loot to the Philippines for shipment to Japan. When this became problematic due to the approaching Allies, Lieutenant Yamashita is said to have buried the treasure in tunnels and caves. Over the past decades, many fortune hunters have tried to find the gold. Including Jack and his father, who have dedicated their lives and spent millions to find the treasure. Jack tries to earn his father's love, trust and respect by keeping up the search. But the quest turns into an unhealthy addiction that severely strains the livelihood of his wife, children and their entire family.
