Architecton

Victor Kossakovsky Germany, France, United States 2024 97 min.

A visual symphony about concrete and stone. Slow-motion shots in which falling rocks and stones seem to flow like rivers, the silent witnesses of ancient temple ruins, recently bombed buildings or houses destroyed by earthquakes, immense quarries where building materials are mined with brute force. And, in addition, an Italian architect's dream of a magic circle. A magnificent, overwhelming cinematic reflection on construction and deconstruction and the illusion of eternity that stone seems to have.

This is already the seventh time award-winning Russian documentary filmmaker Victor Kossakovsky has been featured at DOCVILLE. The first time was in 2012 with ¡Vivan las antípodas!, the film that juxtaposed places that are each other's antipodes on earth and became the campaign image of the festival. In 2018, he zoomed in on the element water in the visually overwhelming film Aquarela. Architecton is the final part of his triptych, in which he takes us on an extraordinary journey through the material that makes up our habitat: concrete and its ancestor, stone.

Following the pseudoscience theme, a tarot card was made of (almost) every film. The complete package of tarot cards is also the catalogue.
