Chosen Family
Elisa Vdk Belgium 2025 85 min.
In the heart of Brussels, four drag queens talk candidly about their lives. Massi, Addi, Lylybeth, and Joy navigate the complexities of their identity and acceptance. In their shows they challenge norms, but above all they find an outlet for their search for self-acceptance and belonging. They are confronted with family tensions, fame, burnout, reinvention, and fortunately, a lot of love, friendship, and fun.

This documentary follows four queer artists at a pivotal moment in their careers within the vibrant Brussels drag scene. While their biological families may not always understand their identity and profession, they find unconditional support in one another—their chosen family.
On stage, they fully inhabit and shape their gender identities. It is both their livelihood and the space where they gather strength to navigate a society that does not always embrace them. As their performances gain visibility, so too does their longing for artistic recognition. Ultimately, they all seek something essential: to embrace who they are and to be embraced as such.
