Coexistence, My Ass!

Comedian Noam Shuster-Eliassi once performed as a poster child for peaceful coexistence between Palestinians and Israelis. She shook hands with Hillary Clinton and the Dalai Lama and aspired to a career at the UN. Over the years, however, her stance shifted, and for some Israelis she gradually became a public enemy. Today, the Israeli-Iranian artist openly protests the occupation of Palestinian territories and confronts her audiences with the biting comedy show Coexistence, My Ass!

Noam Shuster-Eliassi grew up in the Israeli-Palestinian community “Oasis of Peace,” where Palestinians and Israelis live together in friendship. However, as a former poster child for coexistence, Shuster-Eliassi becomes increasingly disillusioned. How can there be peaceful coexistence when one group oppresses the other with devastating violence?

This illuminating portrait, which has already won awards at Sundance and IDFA, interweaves the one-woman show Coexistence, My Ass! with confrontational conversations with Shuster-Eliassi's family, friends, and compatriots who often prefer not to hear her message.
