Dagboek van een baby olifant

Hermien Roelvert-Van Gils South Africa 2025 86 min.

A baby elephant has lost her parents, but luckily she is rescued by a group of conservationists. They name her Khanyisa and make sure she grows up strong and healthy. But an elephant needs a family, and that's not so easy, because wild herds usually don't accept orphaned elephants. The team comes up with a special plan to give little Khanyisa a family after all.

In South Africa, the number of orphaned elephants is rising due to poaching and shrinking wildlife habitats. A remarkable elephant orphanage offers young elephants not only medical care but also the chance to join a new family—the Jabulani herd, largely composed of elephants who were once orphans themselves. Maybe this is what makes them more susceptible to accepting new members – a unique dynamic that may redefine the future of elephant rehabilitation.

As Khanyisa regains strength and trust, the team prepares for her first encounter with the herd. Diary of an Elephant Orphan is a warm and moving film for all ages, set against the breathtaking backdrop of Greater Kruger National Park.

The film is live-dubbed by actor and film enthusiast Koen Monserez.
