At the end of 2024, martial law was declared in South Korea and soldiers blocked the National Assembly so that members of parliament could not revoke the order. How does it feel to have to take to the streets to defend your democracy, which had been taken for granted for decades? Join the people on the streets, experience the tension and chaos, and realize that history was made here.

On a winter evening in early December 2024, President Yoon Suk Yeol unexpectedly declared martial law. He accused the Democratic Party of collaborating with North Korea and warned of a threat to national security. Shortly afterwards, the National Assembly was surrounded by police and military personnel to prevent members of parliament from revoking the decision.

But South Korea carries a burdened past. The memory of military dictatorships and the trauma of the Gwangju massacre are still vivid. That collective history mobilized thousands of citizens, determined to defend their democracy. Filmed by journalists who immediately rushed to the scene, this documentary places the viewer in the midst of the events – among journalists reporting, politicians braving barricades and citizens gathering en masse for fear of losing their hard-won democracy once again. In a raw, direct, and almost journalistic style, the film records these crucial hours that had the potential to completely overturn South Korean democracy.
