Cabale à KaboulDan Alexe
"Once upon a time there were... the two last remaining Jews of Afghanistan." Sharing the courtyard of the old synagogue in Kabul for more than ten years, with an incomparable hatred for each other, each entrenches himself in a part of the edifice. 0n the ground-floor, old Isaac lives poorly by selling his cabalistic amulets and other charms to his Muslim neighbours. Upstairs sitting enthroned on his balcony, Zabulon, more opulent, in his worn-out fifties, haggles with the same Afghans over his illegally produced wine. The few words they speak to each other become systematically more and more abusive and insulting. The reasons for this hatred, although still unclear, apparently go back to the times of the Taliban, who had tolerated their presence. Stuck between two men with whom he shares in turn the table - which somewhat gives rise to reproaches -, Dan Alexe builds a hilarious tragic-comic documentary, a contemporary echo of the biblical legends
