Jheronimus BoschPieter van Huystee

Thanks to the arrival of new radiography and infrared techniques, an art historical research team is able to reach the bottom paint layers of a painting and thus gain insight into the creative process of 'wizard' Hieronymus Bosch.

The documentary “Jheronmius Bosch” follows the experts at the Bosch Research and Conservation Project across the world - ranging from the Louvre in Paris to the National Gallery in Washington - during four years. These experts reach the first layers of the paintings and can thus analyse Bosch’s creative process. In addition, the Noordbrabants Museum is putting on an exhibition in 2016 in honor of the 500th anniversary of 'their' Hieronymus Bosch. However, the question is how many original Bosch paintings they will be able to get to the Netherlands. The Prado, which owns most Bosch paintings, is not cooperative as they also want to organize an exhibition in honor of the fifteenth-century Dutch master. In this documentary, filmmaker Pieter van Huystee asks the question 'what is a genuine Bosch?’ The answer seems unclear, even to the experts. Huystee also offers a deeper look at the world of museums and shows the immense task of putting together an exhibition.
