My FutureLieven Corthouts

In My Future Director Lieven Corthouts followed an eighteen year old Ethiopian girl, Tsega, for over 3 months, during the most important period of life: she just finished her national exam and is now waiting for the results, on which her future will depend. Together with her mother, brothers and sisters, she lives in very poor conditions in a rather isolated village in the North of Ethiopia, with old religious and social traditions ruling their lives. If she passes, she will get a chance to develop her talents, if she fails, she will have to stay in the village, get married, get children… Tsega is dreaming of a better future and wants to get a university degree in the big city. Therefore, she needs to pass her national exam, but the day the results are announced, her result seems to be missing… My Future tells the touching story of a young, intelligent girl who cherishes the same expectations and dreams as Western adolescents of her age. Set against the beautiful background of the magnificent land and culture of Ethiopia, this story slaps us in the face with the hard reality of Tsega’s life and the little village she lives in.
