Plastic PlanetWerner Boote

It is difficult to imagine our society without plastic. From a baby’s pacifier to rubber ducks, from hairdryers to cars, the material is everywhere. It seems we are living in the “Plastic Age”, with Europe producing about 60 million tons of plastic every year. Globally, we are looking at an annual production of 240 million tons. Plastic is all around us and it won’t go away: our oceans are already home to more plastic than plankton and even our blood contains traces of plastic. Filmmaker Werner Boote spoke to company owners, environmentalists, scientists and regular citizens who are amazed at the amount of plastic they have in their homes. Despite the evident threat to the environment and our health, the industry refuses to consider switching to biodegradable materials. What is the reason behind their behavior? Who has an interest in supporting the status quo, allowing our planet to be covered under a thick layer of plastic ?
