Red Forest HotelMika Koskinen

In few places are the direct consequences of pollution as tangible as they are in China, where smog hangs over the cities like a dense fog. In that sense, hearing about massive tree plant actions seemed like great news and the start of a newly green chapter for the country. However, rumors of intimidation and forced expropriation of local farmers nuance the good news. A Finnish director goes in to investigate but is faced with a persistent and at times hallucinatory propaganda machine. A story about the environment turns into one about the omnipresent control of the Chinese state apparatus.
