On January 17th 1961 Patrice Lumumba, the newly elected Prime Minister of independent Congo was assassinated. At the time, a young Belgian civil servant, Jacques Brassinne de La Buissière, resided in Elisabethville. He spent over 30 years clearing up one of the darkest chapters in the decolonization history of Belgian Congo. Sven Augustijnen’s documentary film essay is a look at the thin line between writing and legitimizing history.
