StolenVioleta Ayala & Dan Fallshaw

Fetim is a a Saharawi refugee separated from her mother as a toddler and who is now living in the Polisario governed refugee camps in the Western Sahara. She can be reunited with her mother through a UN family reunion program. Filming her story filmmakers Violeta Ayala and Dan Fallshaw travel to discover a hidden truth that takes them on a journey they could never have imagined: the harsh reality of slavery. They are forced to bury the film tapes in the desert and all of a sudden find themselves in the middle of a humanitarian and political storm. During the premiere of the film at the Sydney Film Festival the Polisario manifested, accused the film makers of lies and took along one of the main characters of the film who withdrew his testimonies. For the Polisario this film is a political statement which benefit Morocco, with whom the Polisario dispute the Western Sahara.
