The Last Man on the MoonMark Craig

Neil Armstrong was the first. But the story of the last man to set foot on the moon is just as fascinating. A harrowing encounter with an iconic figure who is not afraid to show the person behind the heroic astronaut status.

After Neil Armstrong's famous first step on the moon, a total of 11 other men have walked on the moon. Cene Cernan was the last and he stayed there for three days. Just before he returned, he consciously left footprints and wrote the initials of his daughter in the dust, because he knew that it would take a while before anyone else traveled to the moon. This was not just a bit of fun, but a personal catharsis.

Like all candidate astronauts, Cernan had sacrificed everything for years to achieve the ultimate dream. Their family life had to make way for their ambition and their acclaimed commitment and perseverance had a big impact on their environment. Or, as his wife remarked: "If you think going to the moon is hard, try staying at home."

Director Mark Craig combines rare archival footage, stunning visual effects and sincere conversations with the now 80-year-old Cernan. A very honest and personal story about a unique life full of spectacular adventures, burning ambition, intense satisfaction, profound friendship, heavy sacrifices and intense loss.
