For three years French street artist and photographer JR travelled around the world to make portraits of extraordinary women, who survive in circumstances difficult to even wrap our western minds around. Accounts of warfare and abuse reach us through the media, but these women’s fights for survival continue in peace time. JR’s portraits radiate with an incredible dignity and wisdom. He takes these invisible women and literally puts them on display: huge printouts of their portraits are shown in the streets of their cities.
