California Dreams
Mike Ott VS 82 min.
Many feel a calling, but very few are chosen. Making it in Hollywood remains the ultimate dream for those in the film-industry. Same goes for the five people followed by film-director Mike Ott in "California Dreams". In a rather comical manner, by means of a mixture of fiction and reality, Ott depicts the tragic but humorous reality of pursuing that "American dream".

"California dreams" follows five people that, almost hopelessly strive for success in Hollywood. There's Cory: the actor that collects money to be able to afford his flight to Berlin so he can audition. Neal is obsessed with Taco Bell (California-Mexican food), but dreams of a career as a scene-writer. Even the shy Patrick is trying to pave his own way to Hollywood. Carolan has been living in her car for a few years now, but when it comes to her Oscar speech: it is signed, sealed and can readily be delivered. Kevin, aka K-nine, is convinced that he can make it in Hollywood as an imitator. Soon he realizes his chances are slim to none.
California Dreams explores the fine line between fiction and reality. Director Mike Ott beautifully interchanges scripted scenes with real-life scenes of the aspiring actors he follows. Together they provide a combination of a documentary and a comedy. Director of photography Mike Gioulakis does an outstanding job behind the camera. He films fascinating images of landscapes and knows how to play with colors.
