Change My Mind

Robin Kvapil Czech Republic 2025 100 min.

Can people who have become completely entangled in conspiracy theories and the fake news vortex ever change their minds? Perhaps by confronting them with “reality”? Director Robin Kvapil takes on the experiment with three self-proclaimed Czech patriots who reject the ‘mainstream media’s’ coverage of the war in Ukraine. In their view, Russia is unfairly portrayed as the villain, and reports of wartime violence are exaggerated and biased. Will a journey through the war-torn region alter their perspective?

What do we do when we are confronted with facts that contradict our beliefs? The three Czechs in this road movie are witnesses to missile strikes and mass graves; they speak with survivors, wounded soldiers, and grieving relatives; they see children attending classes while hiding in underground metro stations. And yet, convictions sometimes prove stronger than evidence. How do stories shape our fears, our loyalties, and our sense of truth? Does this film become a hopeful narrative of conversion—or a disturbing portrait of denial and identity? A road movie through truth, lies, and war.
