It was one of the most puzzling art thefts of a generation: in 1985, a groundbreaking work by Willem de Kooning was cut from its frame and stolen from a museum in Arizona. For years it was untraceable. Until the precious painting was found more than thirty years later in the home of a deceased pair of teachers.
