Andrew Bagbny, filmmaker Kurt Kuenne's best friend, was murdered in 2001 by his manic girlfriend Shirley. Pregnant, she flees to Canada, where she gives birth to Zachary, the child of the man she killed . The Canadian court lets Shirley walk and gives her custody of Zachary, against the will of Andrew's parents. As a tribute to his friend, Kuenne makes a documentary for Zachary about the father he will never know. What begins as an innocent portrait culminates in a real thriller where the viewer is thrown from one surprise into the next.
